Stop list of the 4-day motorbike trip in the South of Cambodia

Phnom Penh to Phnom Penh 550 km loop

Route Summary:

  • Total Distance: approximately 550 km

  • Duration: 4 days / 3 nights

  • Rider Level: easy to moderate (suitable for all riders and motorbikes)

  • Focus: national parks, colonial architecture, scenic coastline, and rural landscapes

This self-guided journey offers the perfect blend of Cambodia’s diverse landscapes.

Visit from the cool, pine-covered hills of Kirirom National Park to the charming coastal towns of Kep and Kampot.

Day 1: The Ascent to Kirirom National Park

Route: Phnom Penh → Kirirom National Park

Distance: ~129 km (NR4/B Roads)

Your adventure begins as you leave the bustle of Phnom Penh behind the open roads of the Cambodian countryside. The journey southwest takes you along national highways before veering onto smaller roads that weave through rice paddies and charming villages.

Your main destination is Kirirom National Park, also known as “The Mountain of Joy.” Along the way, you may stop at Chambak Waterfall, and another scenic option is the falls at Traeng Trayueng.

The final leg of the ride involves a scenic ascent up a winding road to the plateau. Once in the park, explore the pine forests or relax by the tranquil lake, soaking in the cooler mountain air. Phum Domnak Domrey Resort is one accommodation option within the park.

Day 2: From the Mountains to Kampot's Countryside Charms

Route: Kirirom National Park → Kampot

Distance: ~120 km (Traeng Trayueng Road/NR43)

After enjoying a morning coffee in the hills, descend from Kirirom and head south towards the coast. The journey takes you through provincial towns and tranquil rural roads. Your destination is Kampot, a charming riverside town renowned for its colonial architecture and breathtaking countryside.

A highly recommended local loop includes:

3 motorbikes riding on winding roads of Bokor hill

Riding in Bokor, Kampot

  • Riding up Bokor Hill to see wild monkeys, an old French casino, waterfalls, and panoramic views with twisty roads.

  • Visiting a pepper plantation to understand why Kampot pepper is regarded as one of the best in the world.

  • Exploring the shimmering salt marshes, which are especially beautiful during harvest season (from February onwards).

  • Discovering Brilliant Lake (also known as the "Secret Lake"). A peaceful man-made reservoir with a tragic story (built during the Khmer Rouge era using forced labour), which is perfect for a stop and contemplation.

Day 3: Kampot to the Sea -> Kep

Route: Kampot → Kep

Distance: ~25 km

A short, scenic 25 km ride along the coast brings you to the neighbouring town of Kep. You can easily visit Kep as a day trip while keeping your accommodation in Kampot for convenience, or choose to stay overnight by the sea for a different experience.

While in Kep, be sure to:

  • Sample the famous crab at the Crab Market

  • Visit the central beach area

  • Follow the coastal road for access to quieter white-sand beaches and views of offshore islands

Day 4: The Return Journey to Phnom Penh

Route: Kampot (or Kep) → Phnom Penh

Distance: ~160 km

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast in Kampot or Kep before starting your final ride back to the capital. The main return route follows National Road 3, a well-maintained and direct highway. However, for a more scenic and relaxed experience, it's recommended to begin your ride on Road 31, which eventually reconnects with Road 3.

This leg takes you through the historic province of Takeo, offering glimpses of traditional Cambodian life. It’s a smooth and straightforward ride that gives you time to reflect on the incredible variety of landscapes experienced over the past four days—from misty mountain forests to the peaceful southern coast.

You’ll arrive back in Phnom Penh by the afternoon, concluding your unforgettable Highlands to Coast adventure.
