​How to Obtaining a Cambodian Driver's License for Foreigners using a foreign driving license?

In Cambodia, foreigners who are legally residing in the country (long term resident/visa) are required to obtain a Cambodian driver's license based on the type of vehicle they intend to drive. Here's a breakdown:

Type A License for motorcycles over 125cc.
Type B License for cars.
Validity: Foreigners holding a converted Cambodian driver's license can use it for up to one year.

Purpose: The Cambodian driver's license serves as a form of identification, allows you to get an insurance for your vehicle (insurance coverage in Cambodia is only applicable with a local permit), and is recognized in ASEAN countries. As per the 1985 Agreement among ASEAN nations, a Cambodian driving license is accepted in countries like Malaysia and Thailand for instance.

Application Process: The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) manages Cambodian driver's license issuance. Applications can be submitted at their main offices in Phnom Penh and Provincial Department of Public Works and Transport offices.

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday, 9 am to 10 pm.

General Department of Public Works and Transport Main Office
Operating Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 12 pm, 2 pm to 5:30 pm.
Application Steps and Requirements:

Gather Your Documents:

• Valid Passport (minimum validity of 6 months).
• Cambodian Visa (proof of legal status and long term residency).
• Foreign Driver's License (in English, French, or Khmer).
• Certificate of Residence stamped by your Sangkat.
• Three recent passport photos (4x6 cm, white background).
• Medical Certificate (available at Driver's License Centers for around 10,000 riels).
• Driving License Fee (typically 100,000 riels or $25).
• Work Permit or Long-Term Visa if applicable.

Submit your application and documents in person.
